About the Author

About Katharine Guerrier

Katharine Guerrier has been making quilts and embroideries since 1980. She was trained at the Camberwell School of Art in London and worked for some years as a teacher. Further courses in textiles followed, including studying design and embroidery at Loughborough College of Art.

A regular contributor to local and national quilt exhibitions, Katharine’s work has won prizes and been exhibited in the UK and the USA. She has been a member of the Quilter's Guild and the Worcestershire Guild of Designer Craftsmen, and her work has been featured in both British and American magazines.

Her work draws on the traditional motifs of pieced patchwork, developing them to give a contemporary feel. An interest in all the Decorative Arts provides the motivation for Katharine to attempt to create textiles which are original and collectable.

Young Quilter Project - The Quilters' Guild

I love it. It has been really interesting and useful as I've wondered how to do a lot of things that were in that book and now, I know. I especially like the piece in it about reverse appliqué as I've wanted to try it for a long time!

Wow! I wish I'd had this book for the start of my City and Guilds! This book covers it all, including but absolutely not limited to: the anatomy of a quilt, the tools needed for patchwork and quilting, how to work out your fabric requirements, patchwork block construction, string piecing, speed piecing, Suffolk puffs, cathedral windows, crazy patchwork, applique, different quilting methods, finishing methods AND THEN a range of quilts which are displayed thematically including pictorial quilts, texture, pattern and rhythm, improvised quilts and traditional quilts.

This really is a must-have for anyone who wants a book which covers it all! I also think it'd make a great present for anyone interested in sewing so I will definitely be buying a copy for my Mum for Mother's Day next month... in the meantime... this copy is mine! I am putting away my hand-sewing and digging out my machine to have a go at this Seminole Patchwork angled design!
