Be inspired to turn your hand to something crafty this Christmas – just like the staff in the Search Press office! We have been busy getting in the festive spirit, and recreating a selection of seasonal projects from our books, as well as holding a fantastic Crafternoon session to raise money for the charity Mind.
We have been posting our creations on our social media channels daily in a special advent countdown to Christmas, so check out our Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or Pinterest pages for all the newest photos! Go ahead and check out today's make; but if you want to catch up, here are our creations to date – we hope you will feel inspired and motivated to have a go yourself!
1st December
From Mini Felt Christmas by Sachiyo Ishii, which includes 30 decorations to sew for the festive period, comes our first Christmas project – this amazing Holly Wreath, by our Head of Marketing, Lin. It would look perfect hanging on your door!
2nd and 3rd December
Decorate your walls and shelves with this fun felt bunting, taken from Debbie Shore’s Half Yard Christmas. Chloe from the marketing department had great fun sewing the robin design, and then using a tip in the book to adapt the design and create some super-cool snowman bunting!
4th December
This lovely red-nosed reindeer, from Val Pierce's 20 to Make: Mini Christmas Crochet is sure to guide the sleigh this Christmas – you’ll be hooked on making your own version, just like Louise in our production department was!
5th December
Monica in our marketing department was inspired to put paintbrush to paper and recreate the snowy street scene from Terry Harrison’s Painting Watercolour Snow Scenes the Easy Way. Why not use the tips and techniques in the book to create a range of lovely personalised Christmas cards for family and friends?
6th December – Search Press Crafternoon
The Search Press team got stuck into making a range of Christmas goodies, including crackers, gift tags and more! As well as having lots of fun (and a glass of mulled wine!) we were taking part in the national Crafternoon event to help raise money for Mind. You can find out more information about the charity on their website here.
7th December
It was almost a shame to eat this yummy igloo cake baked and decorated by Sophie, our Customer Services Supervisor! Taken from 20 to Make: Sugar Christmas Decorations by Georgie Godbold – we love the sugarcraft penguin and his sweet little friends!
8th December
Em, our Publishing Assistant, has been busy making Debbie Shore’s Button Bunting, from Sew Bunting. If you are a member of the Half Yard Sewing Club, don’t forget you can download the project from the website!
9th December
Claire in our marketing department has followed the step-by-step instructions, and painted her own version of Stephen Coates’ lovely wintry scene, ‘Lake in the Snow’, from The Watercolour Enigma.
10th December
Lyndsey, one of our editors, has been busy folding sheets of paper to create these two origami stars from Paper Christmas by Emily Dawe. You can make a star wreath using the technique, or even decorations for the tree!
11th December
More cute decorations have been sewn by Lin – these colourful felt creations were taken from Sew Your Own Felt Advent Calendar by Sachiyo Ishii, and were adapted to become tree decorations. This is a great way to add a unique touch to your own Christmas tree.
12th December
Wrap up warm this winter in a Tunisian crochet scarf – just like this one that Em has made! This project is taken from Beginner's Guide to Tunisian Crochet by Emma Guess, and would make an extra special gift for someone this Christmas.
There’s nothing like a handmade present or personalised decorations to add that special touch to the Christmas celebrations, so if you are feeling inspired by all of our Christmassy makes, then why not have a go at some of the projects that we have shared? We’d love to see your projects, so remember to tag us on our social media channels! Don’t forget – follow us online to see the rest of our creations over the festive period!
