Longtime crafters Smith and Walshs guide to crafting for people with menopause incorporates an introduction by a doctor who discusses menopause and some of the related issues that might arise. It also suggests ways to moderate symptoms, including through craft.
The book then shares 10 projects aimed at helping with different symptoms e.g., a cooling quilt, organizational baskets, a sleep mask, a lotion pouch with each one focused on a specific issue. Some projects have been contributed by guest makers, who are also in the target age range and well-known in the crafting field. The writing style is light and encouraging, and each project is accessible to new crafters. The instructions are adequate and there are photos and illustrations for each project.
VERDICT: Those who are new to crafting or were previously unaware of the strong anti-stress benefits of crafting might find this book most helpful.

Such an inspirational book for Menopause Women. A time when women are feeling at a low, this book will give them the feel-good factor. It is full of tips, techniques and informs you of all you will need to make the 10 projects in this book.
There are three pages telling you what the Menopause is, written by Dr Hannah Davies which I found very interesting and informative.
The headings for the 10 makes are, Insomnia, Memory loss, Low mood, Dry itchy skin, Stress, Brain Fog, Anxiety, Butter Fingers, Hot Flashes, Night Sweats, followed by projects that if you made them would help you feel better about their headings. I love the Hot Flashes project, NOT headed Hot Flashes, but Hot Flashes, as its a colourful jacket that even if you are new to sewing you could make. Some of these projects are designed by four guest designers.
There are also full size Patterns in the back of the book to make things even easier.
As the Authors say this book, if bought and made, will help you through a Foggy Time.
A hardback book, well-illustrated, and for £20, a wonderful buy.

I have received this book to review. An intriguing title written by two sewing and quilting teachers. This is an A4 size hardback book, printed on nice quality paper and a vibrant colour choice. Ten projects to sew selecting some key symptoms that some ladies suffer with throughout the menopause journey. An interesting section about the menopause followed by some information pages regarding materials, threads and fabrics required etc. Each project is printed in colourful sections with easy to read, clear instructions, guiding you through the make. There are pictures to visually support you. A different topic to sew along with but some great information and lovely quick makes to enjoy.

I just adore this book!!
It is informative and supportive about the menopause and it's impact on the lives of women, while offering brilliant sewing support with some lovely projects. The book begins with a definition of what the menopause is and how it effects women in many ways, followed by the personal experiences of the two authors.
In addition to guidance on sewing materials, tools, colours, instructions and projects, the book is interspersed with inspirational quotations from powerful women.
The book is an A4 hardback edition, and at £20, is excellent value for money. The paper is good quality with lovely, bright photographs to accompany each project, which are suitable for both beginners and more experienced sewists as they battle through brain fog.
Each project is given a title that will resonate with menopausal women, while also adding a little humour as they navigate this complex time of their lives. I particularly like the Memory Loss project, which is a Basket For Lost Things!
The projects are both interesting and useful, with clear instructions, recommendations and support. The book also contains a useful envelope at the back which contains pattern sheets that can you can use over and over.
Even if you don't make any of the projects, which I am sure you will, it can be read as an inspirational book, with support from strong women.
I just loved it.

Even though, l am well past the menopause, l was excited to receive this book. A small enough book to take to workshops or even use at home to make gifts for friends etc. Right from the first few pages that are so colourful it makes you want to delve further into the book. You have Menopause explained to you and how you can make life easier whilst being sometimes affected by the symptoms. The two ladies who wrote the book also tell you a little of their experience and why they are proud of the book they wrote. You are led into what tools, materials, fabrics to use. This gives you a basic knowledge to achieve the best results. l also love all the little sayings by different women at the beginnings of pages, making you feel special.
The section, how to use the book details you through projects from beginners to advanced sewists. Then onto the projects...You also get treated to some guest designers and their projects. Found pages that gave you some symptoms, l can recall from my time through the menopause. The pictures and instructions that go with the projects are super, they are detailed with every step. Loved the techniques to use when sewing, quilting or patchwork and also the section for dressmaking, explaining how to measure yourself to achieve the best fit. Near the end you get links and info on the designers who are also in the book and a thanks and acknowledgements to the, Super idea, thanking designers for their time and effort.
Last of all and an added bonus is the pattern sheets to enable you to make the projects over and over again. This book is a gem and l am really glad l have it. Well done to all who are inside it and l will definitely be making more of the projects.
