Mischievous, smart and the leader of the Flock, Shaun the Sheep made his screen debut in the Wallace & Gromit film, A Close Shave, in 1995. Fast-forward to now and Shaun has become a global superstar, enjoyed by fans in 170 countries across the world!

His ‘deb-ewe’ knitting book, Baa-rilliant Knits, features Shaun and 9 of his Mossy Bottom sidekicks, lovingly created by popular knitting designer Sachiyo Ishii.

The book features two versions of Shaun (on two legs and four legs!), complete with Santa hat and paper chain from The Flight Before Christmas short film, and a baker's hat and pizza from the series 6 episode Baa-gherita.

Also ready for some fleecy farmyard fun are:

  • Shaun's adorable friend Timmy and Timmy's mum;
  • Shirley, the fleeciest member of the gang;
  • The mischievous Twins;
  • The Farmer and his trusty canine sidekick Bitzer;
  • A Naughty Pig to make in triplicate;
  • Mower Mouth the greedy goat;
  • Raul, one of the infamous llamas from The Farmer's Llamas short film!

Ideal for confident knitters, the book contains essential techniques and stitches at the start, with clear instructions for making the characters stand upright and a full step-by-step construction guide. The patterns are easy-to-follow, packed with photographs for easy reference, and any tricky elements are broken down into step-by-step stages. The patterns are interspersed with stills from Shaun's movie masterpieces as well as from episodes of his popular TV series, for inspiration and entertainment.

More about Shaun: Shaun the Sheep has starred in six TV series and enjoyed success on the big screen with two feature films that have seen him go on adventures beyond Mossy Bottom Farm. And did we mention that Shaun is a social media star too, with nearly 6 million followers on Facebook? Shaun has featured in commercials, live shows and computer games, and there is a Shaun the Sheep Land in Sweden and a Shaun-themed café in Japan. Shaun the Sheep has even been into space as part of the Artemis (or Baa-temis) space mission!

If you are a Shaun the Sheep fan and you can knit, then you will love this book.

It is full of lovely and easy to follow instructions for Shaun and all his wonderful friends. A list of supplies and information on how to sew these characters together.

All together there are ten characters for you to enjoy making, also in the pages of the book there are great photos of Shaun, and all his friends captured in all sorts of moments.

The book itself has 112 large, strong pages, and its cost is £14.99.

It is well worth the money and full of fun, it made me smile.

For all those fans of Shaun the Sheep, comes 10 Ewe-nique character knits from Sachiyo Isshii. She covers materials and tools as well as the basics of knitting and clear examples of stitches and embroidery you need in addition to create these marvellous characters. Photographs show close ups of how to construct the characters.

So whether you wish to knit all 10, or just dip in occasionally, you will have a fine time perusing and making your next knitting choice. However, I guarantee you will have trouble choosing.

Jackie from Half Yard Sewing Club

Baa-rilliant Knits by Sachiyo Ishii is really colourful and contains knitting patterns to create Shaun the sheep and his farmyard friends. With 10 characters including the farmer, dog, pigs, goat, llama and several sheep characters up to 8 tall. The patterns are illustrated with scenes from the films. They are easy to follow with supplies lists and finished size guides, some have pictorial instructions but not all of them. The start of the book has useful information on yarns used and knitting know how such as stitches and tension and tips for sewing up and stuffing. If you like making stuffed toys and have a fan of Shaun the Sheep in the family these will be a great set of toys to make. The author suggests embroidering eyes and other features if giving to a small child.

Starting with the title - an excellent play on words for an excellent, original book, that is lots of fun. The book contains eleven patterns for characters from Shaun the Sheep, well supported with close up photographs showing how to construct the characters.  There are also lovely photographs showing the characters in situ, which are funny and entertaining. Clear instructions are present along with lists of materials used, basic knitting stitches, and detailed information showing how to assemble the characters. For existing fans of Shaun the Sheep, or those new to him, this is a book packed with projects to have fun with.

Shaun The Sheep Baa-rilliant Knits by Sachiyo Ishii is a delightful book. Thank you Sachiyo for going to the trouble of creating the knitting patterns for the characters of Shaun the Sheep. The patterns include Shaun (up right and on all fours), the Farmer, Bitzer, Timmy and his teddy bear, Timmys Mum, the Naughty Pigs, Mower Mouth, Raul, Shirley and The Twins along with their accessories.

There are excellent photos of the knits, with some good close-ups for assembling the characters and, just for fun, stills from the actual cartoon dotted throughout the book. The pattern instructions are clear and easy to follow. Sachiyo includes chapters on Materials & Tools, Basic Knitting Know-how, Sewing & Stitches and Sewing Up & Stuffing, so the basics are there before you get knitting.

The patterns use mainly knit and purl stitches and increase and decrease stitches to make the shapes, so if youre a knitter youll find it a breeze. For a complete novice to knitting you may need to look into how to cast on and off before you get started as these techniques are not covered in the book. Sachiyo provides info on the materials she has used and gives knitting needle sizes in UK, US and millimetres.

I think if you enjoy knitting and like Shaun the Sheep you will have fun creating these characters for yourself or someone else.
